MEDICAL RESEARCH STUDY

Well, as the title says I am currently enrolled in a medical research study. Of all things a weight loss study! HA!

I know it sounds crazy but I consider it a fundraiser for the adoptions. I'm getting paid over $2,000 to do it! Now before you go saying, (Shannon)what about that third eye that might pop out, or growing a tail, know I am taking the placebo.

Study details:
It's a weight loss study on a drug that has already been approved by the FDA for another use. Patients recorded significant weight loss while on the medication. And we all know how drug companies like to make money. So they are now doing research to get approval from the FDA to market it as a weight loss drug.

I have to stay "in house" two different times. Once for 48 hours. (already done) and once for 6 days. I check in tonight and don't get home till Sunday. 4 of those days is doing nothing but taking meds and eating controlled meals. The other days are full of blood tests, taking vital signs, and ECG's (other wise known as EKG's) and measurements.

How I know I am on the placebo? Well when the first dose was administered she gave me the bottle. I looked in and didn't see anything. I thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me. So I asked her, "was it a clear liquid?" She said, "no I didn't get anything, I was the placebo." We all laughed. She said of all the studies she has dispursed meds for, she has never seen them not give a sugar pill. So I literally have to put the bottle up to my mouth like I am taking medicine, drink 8oz of water and she has to check my mouth and hands afterwards. Too funny!!!! She teases me about being good at gulping air! :)

The cool thing is, before I knew wether or not I would qualify, I was pretty desperate to do the study for the $. So finally I prayed and gave it to God. I told him if the meds would somehow hurt me or mess up my body that I would give up the study. My health is important to me. But that I hoped I could do it to get closer to paying off our adoptions. How cool is it that God allowed me to do the study AND made sure I was the placebo???

I have two other roomates while there. They are both nice and considerate. There are 10 of us in all doing the study. It should be an interesting week. I will miss my family, but I just keep saying $2,000!

Family and other Haiti moms here in E'ville area are helping watch the girls while Todd is at work. They also have visitation each day. So Todd has agreed to bring the girls every other day to visit. I have packed a ton of things to keep me busy. I plan on scrapbooking a majority of the time. I'm gonna look like I'm moving in for longer than a week when I take my scrapbooking stuff. :)

Well I will miss all of you! And I will definatly miss reading all the blogs. Take care and I will post when I get back!
Hugs, Kristina

I think it sounds nice!! But, of course, I'm in the middle of trying to keep a house clean with 5 kids out of school so that at any moment someone can decide to disrupt our lives to come into my home and decide based partly on how clean I keep my house whether or not they would like to live here! It's crazy!!!

A week "pretending" to take a pill. And making $2000.... bring it on, baby!!

You don't like strawberries either?? What's wrong with you?

The girls did great today. We went to the library and out to lunch. Todd got an extra hour to himself when he got off work.

Anyway, have fun!!

I'm glad that you are "taking" the placebo. That's just too funny about pretending to take one!
Enjoy your scrap booking time!
