Best Buddies

I am typing in an extremely tired state, but this was too important to not share.

We got word Friday morning that Jonas' best buddy from the orphanage was coming home to Evansville on Sunday night. He was so excited when we told him Jefferson, aka Jeffy, was finally coming home! I tried to explain it would be two more days. He didn't get it. The concept of time is a difficult thing to grasp. But we learned a long time ago that children do better when you make the time equation in "sleeps". So, Jonas was told 2 more sleeps! This he understood.

Needless to say the countdown began. Each day he would recite how many sleeps and that it would take place after we went to church. It was so priceless! He kept telling us he was very happy that Jeffy was coming home. He asked me all night Saturday if he could give Jeffy some of his toys. One after one he would bring me an item to get approval. Finally I told him we would go to the store and pick something out. He liked this idea. But he wanted to give him one of his Snoopies too. Deal.

Sunday came and we went to church. Right after church we had half a day of Pictures In The Park. However it began to rain and we had to call everyone and ask if they wanted to reschedule their appointments. Most of them did. I was a bit upset because it is hard to reschedule and we have already been at this for 4 weeks in a row. I am ready for us to have our weekends back for family time.

Well little did I know God was clearing my schedule for a surprise bump in the road. We got a call that Jeffy and his family got delayed in the immigration office at the Miami airport for 3 hours and missed their flight. This meant they would not be flying into the Evansville airport but into the St Louis airport 3 hours away. Oh how would we ever tell Jonas?

I looked at Todd he looked at me...and well... yep, we decided to go. This was important to our son and the Brown family deserved a homecoming with pictures just like everyone else! We headed home and packed up the van and headed out. Cathy, Bethany, and Kaleb decided to go too so we met up with them on the interstate. Then after talking to another Haiti family they decided to come too. We were declared crazy and loved every minute of it.

I wasn't sure how Jonas would do for that long of a ride, but he was so excited about seeing Jeffy he was great. Once we got to the airport he held my hand thru the parking garage saying, "I'm so happy, I'm so happy mom" the whole way. It was priceless!

We waited for awhile and got a chance to visit with Jeffy's dad and then before we knew it they were there. What happened next was well worth the drive and getting home at 3am in the morning to only get back up at 7am to do a full day of Pictures In The Park today.

Watch the video and you will see what I mean...

I wish you could have seen Jeffy's face when he saw Jonas standing next to his dad!

Best buddies and happy. I am happy that my son will grow up with his best friend from the O!
Hugs, Kristina
