HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

OK. Most of you won't read this til November 1st, but I wanted to blog about it.

On Halloween we have always gone to our church to celebrate, or to one of the kid's school programs. All very good alternative, safe , and VERY crowed events.

This year we took a vote and the girls decided to do the "old fashioned" version like their mom and dad did as a kid...we trick-or-treated our neighborhood.

The kids had a blast. And we had fun too!!!! It was a whirlwind of activity at our house this afternoon trying to get ready. And it would not be complete without drama.

Drama #1-Lillie wanted to be a lamb. And up until 2:45 this afternoon I had no idea how to make Lillie's Halloween costume wish come true. Do you know how hard it is to find a white PLAIN sweatsuit? As a last ditch effort I went to Target after school today. By 3pm and the help of Target... mission accomplished! It is amazing how creative you can be when pressed for time. What do you think?

I do have to share, hot gluing cotton balls to a t-shirt is a cute idea. Problem is by the end of the evening, the cotton balls were separating and falling off, except where they were touching glue. So we had a really cute little lamb who was malting all thru the neighborhood. She looked like a sheep who needed to be sheared! We were picking up cotton balls all thru the neighborhood!!!!

Drama #2- Megan wanted to be Hannah Montana. We found her an outfit at the resale shop. And all I heard yesterday was she needed a Hannah Montana wig. What she didn't know was I got her one. (thanks to our next door neighbor) OK, I splurged, something I don't normally do. But Megan being the middle child usually gets very little special treatment, even though I try to be fair. So I got one. Well she was all excited and we got her natural hair put up and wig on. MELT DOWN!!!!

She said it was "itchy".
WHAT?
I don't want to wear it!
WHAT?

Major, BIG time melt down! PLEASE just wear it for 30 minutes so I feel like I got my money's worth....ok....wear it while you trick-or-treat our neighbors and mom gets a picture. Can you tell by her face she really just wants to throw the wig at me?Needless to say the wig came off!

Drama #3- What will Todd and I do? Dress up or be normal parents? Naaaaaa...we are a drama household! I literally came up with mine in 5 minutes and so did Todd. Me a witch, Todd a rock star! Cute huh?
And Jessica...dress up? Yep! She and her best friend went as robbers...uh...spies...well whatever it was every five minutes!

Not only did we go as a family, but three of Jessica's friends came along to. Two of which would have done their trick-or-treating by themselves if they had not joined us. I've been told middle schoolers are too cool to do this, but they had so much fun. I think it was non stop laughing and talking from them the whole time. Afterwards they all came back to our house for soup and sandwiches. To much fun!!! And as you can see from the picture, Jessica's friend, Maggie's little sister decided to wear the wig. At least for a little bit (it was too itchy). So I got my money's worth.

Now a bit of art work. During the 6 weeks I home schooled, every day I gave the girls an art assignment. One day it was to draw a picture of our family. For whatever reason they drew it for Halloween. I'm not complaining, they turned out really cute. Thought you might like to see them.

JESSICA
(Left to Right) Jessica as a Harry Potter character, Hippie Megan, Rock star Lillie, Jonas Elf, And Princess Ellie.

MEGAN
(Left to Right) Married Princess Jessica, Lillie as a banana, Jonas as a robber, Ellie as a Hogwarts student (Harry Potter), Herself as Luna Lovegood. (Harry Potter)

LILLIE
(left to right) Megan as a bride, Jonas a big buffy man, Ellie a little girl with an afro, and Lillie & Jessica as angels.

Hope you had a wonderful Halloween like we did!
Hugs, Kristina

Oh how fun!!! I have to admit...the wig was a little shocking on Megan. The story made it even funnier because of that smile she displayed so well for the picture. Ha. Too funny. I can totally hear that whole conversation go down.

Kristina,
Cute photos...Love the drama!! Your Halloween sounds a lot like our Halloween! Kathryn was also going to be Hannah Montanna and we too splurged on the wig...which she hated because it was itchy and hot and kept getting into her face. So by the 5th or 6th house, I was carrying the wig, her microphone (that she kept dropping to hold her pumpkin)and Kyle's broken Harry Potter glasses. I looked like the lost and found travelling behind my bunch!!!
The main thing is that I think everyone had a good time and of course we have plenty of candy to share with you all this weekend:)

well, in haiti we don't celebrate halloween (probably a good idea given their fears of demons and whatnot), but last night i explained to the kids about dressing up and asking for candy at people's houses and then i gave each kid one piece of candy. it was a huge success! looks like yours was too!

Looks like a blast. We used to dress up years ago and have quit doing that. Sounds like we need to pick that up again!

Love the hat Kris!
I was thinking Todd was a Californian, lol, that is how many dress everyday out there ;). He sure looks tough in that picture.
Great creativity! I would have never known that you made Lillie's costume if you hadn't mentioned it! Good job!
Glad you all had a good time :)
We had NO kids at all, I guess our neighborhood is too new.
