Well, it has been a crazy few days in the Burnett household!!! There isn't a day that doesn't go by that Todd and I don't look at each other and say, "he's really here!" It all seems so surreal!
Sunday after we left the airport we went to get some breakfast at McDonald's. Yep Jonas LOVED it. He loved it so much he thought he'd go behind the counter and help! Yes, he really walked behind the counter. He ate his egg and all three pancakes! The boy can eat!
Then off to church. We knew there would be people who were happy for us, but we didn't expect the reception we got! At the beginning of the service they always do announcements. And this particular Sunday they also did a baby dedication. After the baby dedication our pastor asked us to come up. He explained to the congregation about our adoption and the WHOLE church stood up and clapped and cheered!!!! We were both overwhelmed! Our church knows Haiti. They have their own orphanage that they run, so they get how HUGE this was. I love our church! After church we went back to the house. MeMe (Todd's mom) had made a wonderful lunch. Then it was time for Jonas to unwrap his gifts. It was so funny to watch him. He barely got the paper off one and he went to the next one, without looking at what he actually got!!!
Then, that evening we went back for evening church. Michelle, Jordyn, and Alli joined us. So Todd sang with the choir while Michelle and I sat in church. Jonas was so exhausted he wanted me to hold him. Before long he was sound asleep, on me! Yippe! It was sooooooooo awesome to just hold him, feel him next to me, smell him and kiss him whenever I wanted to! I just couldn't believe it!
We went home and put him to bed. It felt normal and exciting! Ahhhh to see that Snoopy bed full was a triumphal moment for me! After a few minutes Todd and I were at the computer discussing some things , the TV was on and the girls were being louder than they should, I heard Jonas crying. I couldn't believe it. I mean I can, but to have your momma instincts kick in, to hear his little cry above all the noise was amazing!!!!
Todd and I went back and calmed him down. I figured out what happened. One of our cats had gone in and jumped up to catch the string on the balloons someone gave us. It scared him, poor guy! He settled in and slept all night. And has every night since then!
The past few days have been full of fun and setting of boundaries. I have been firm in setting them from the beginning! I know most would say, oh let him have fun. But to me to allow him to just run all over and do things we wouldn't normally allow, and then tell him a week or two later that it is wrong, would be cruel and harder to correct!
Monday we were blessed with snow! When Jonas looked out our front window he got so excited and started jumping up and down! He ran for his coat right away. (he was still in his PJ's) So we went out for a little bit. He loved it! He didn't like the fact that it made his gloves wet or cold!

He is dealing with everything so well. He is hardly ever cold. He must be a warm natured thing. I ask him all the time!
Eating has been fun. I knew to fix his plate with the right portion of food. He would eat till he threw up if we let him. A funny thing happened the first morning.. I made oatmeal (trying to make things similar to Haiti). He looked at it and pushed the bowl away and said in clear English, "This not good for me." I pushed the bowl back and said, "yes it is!" We did this one more time and I told him that it is what is for breakfast, eat it or wait till lunch. He ate it. For supper we had fried chicken. He proclaimed in a loud voice, "This is good for me!" LOL, he cracks me up!
He has brought laughter and peace to our house! It is amazing to have him here! Joy doesn't even begin to express it! Sometimes I am afraid if I blink he will disappear.
We are working on learning how to play by ourselves. Think about it, he has always had other children constantly around. It has been a challenge. But today he did really well!!!!
Here are a few pictures from our first couple of days!
Hugs, Kristina

Wow - it is so cool, so amazing! What a joy to see Jonas in your home, together with his big sisters. It takes my breath away. Just awesome!
He's very cute!! How old is he? Sounds like things are going great! Is his english very good? Again, Congratulations!
I loved reading every bit of this. He is so funny! His fried chicken comment made Greg and I laugh as did his running behind the counter at McDonalds. What precious days these are! Thank you for taking the time to document them! My plan all along has been to cease blogging when the boys come home. But now I'm seeing how encouraging and special it is for people to see these children at home after SUCH a long wait. So I may need to rethink my decision!
The post we have all been waiting for!!! That is so wonderful Kristina!!! It sounds like he's settling in very nicely. I agree with you about the boundaries & limits. They are very important.
How awesome! Simply awesome!
Thanks for the update! I loved reading it and, of course, seeing the pictures!
