I can not believe that my trip to Haiti is coming up so soon! There are 11 of us going!!!! We leave June 13th and return June 20th. Oh, how I ache to see Jonas, to hold him! I never knew I could love another human being so much without ever having seen them in person. I am in awe at how God forms those bonds thru heart strings!
When you travel to Haiti to the orphanage they ask that you use a rolling carry on for your own stuff (plus one personal bag. Mine will be a backpack). Then your two checked pieces of luggage can be for donations to the "O" (orphanage). So with 11 people going, we will have 22 bags of donations of supplies to give!!!!!! The bags can be up to 50lbs each. Do you realize how much stuff that will be?
We have been busy collecting all kinds of stuff.
One of my best friends helped me find cloth diapers and plastic pants at yard sales. I found MuMu's and flip flops for the nannies at resale shops. AND the most exciting thing was I went to the resale shop I always go to and got a cart full of stuff to donate (clothes and shoes for the kids), and when I checked out told them I was going on a missions trip to Haiti for an orphanage, could they do any better on all I was getting? ( A little of my mom rubbing off on me! :) )Well, the owner gave me a $50 gift certificate AND said I could have everything for 1/2 off! i couldn't believe it! $100 worth of items for free.
THEN, three days later my name was drawn for the weekly drawing at the resale shop. I got another $50 gift certificate and went shopping on a half price day. So I got another $100 worth of goods for FREE!!!!! God is amazing!
While here in California, I found clearanced formula for $1.99 a can. For a 16oz. can! Nothing wrong with it, just fazing it out! I got all they had. Only 7 cans, but hey it's better than paying $15-$30 a can!!!!! AND I found plastic pants out here too. Who knew you had to go to California to find cheap stuff!!!!! HA!
God does supply our needs and it has been a priveledge to be a part of it for the "O".
My stomach does butterflys when I think about meeting Jonas for the first time. Todd and I have been praying that our first meeting would be blessed by God. That even now he is telling Jonas I am coming and who I am! It will be sooooo comforting to have Cathy and Alyssa there with me! Not to mention Michelle!
